Do you know of any? I want to have my primary battery for cranking and an aux battery for running lights, cb, and whatever else I want to power up. I tried to google it but not really finding a kit and the ones I did find were european models. I am sure on fordmuscle.com the project redneck used one but I don't have a membership to the site so I have no idea what he used.
What your looking for is known as a battery isolator google this term and youll get pictures. You can pick one up at any auto store i suggest at least 90 amp but your current alternator amp output determines this. Then its a matter of installation. They are fairly easy to install but do a thurough job not a quicky cause the amps running in and out of these can destroy a vehicle quick if you get an electrical short.
I just found a kit http://www.hellroaring.com/index.php and I wonder if they are any good. I found a couple of isolators that cost around $100 alone and they offer a kit for $200 so I may go that route. Don't know if anyone here has used the Hellroaring company before though. I am sure there are others out there though.
one route to go is to get a continuos duty sol from a company such as cole herse, you can run a cable from the pos post of the factory battery to the sol and from the other large post on the sol run a cable to the aux battery, then wire the sol so it only engages when the truck is running.
The link you posted seems a bit over priced. I used the sure power brand 90 amp on a 60 amp alt it seems to be the most common that i find under hoods probably due to availability. I would stay away from kits the restrictions they can place on you as far as mounting locations due to the supplies they give. As i said these are easy to install and the whole project cost me about 50 bucks and six hours. The thing you need to take attention to is the alt connections themselves this one doesnt work with an internal regulator single wire alt. Surepower has a great customer service and tech support if you have questions.
Go to www.quadratec.com In the product search box type in: battery manager. The systems are originally for Jeeps but can be used for anything. They have a good selection and they work well. Multi-function switch and heavy duty solenoid.
