My 2006 F250 6.0 makes a sound like a old gasser with the filter housing turned upside down. Just a roar type sound at 65 and above.
Runs great just the sound is annoying. The injectors seem a little loud also. I have 16,000 miles to date on engine. I have the EGR unpluged.
I use 5/w40 schaffers oil.
I have the same drone in my 2005. The drone kicks in at about 2000 rpms when the engine is loaded. For example, at 60 mph it is quiet and at 75 it is quiet. At 70, the drone is loud. The dealer told me today that this is normal.
It's only NORMAL to Ford anyone else it's an issue. There are several TSB's on this I believe. There is a new pedistal for the turbo out to replace the old one but being it's a 2006 I don't think that applies. They will more than likely neutralize the exhaust to try and fix it. I saw there was also a stiffening bracket out also not sure if it applies to the 06's.
Also about the aftermarket exhaust .... it didn't to squat for my drone .... just made it worse under load.
I talked with the mechanic this morning after he test drove my truck. He said that the "roar" I am hearing is not the dreaded turbo moan. My 2005 does have the updated pedestal and I won't be getting the stiffening bracket. I may try to nuetralize the exhaust on my own to see it it helps.
Dealer called and said I need a new pedistal for the turbo.Replaced
sensor ( ERG ). They will order new pedistal, Will post as soon as I
Get truck back.
Great.... glad it is working out. Let us know. There is a bracket assembly available for it the turbo pedestal that braces it to somewhere on the intake I think in the front of the engine. I'm looking into having that put on.
I had the same drone at 2000 RPM'S Dealer replaced the turbo pedistal with the updated one and the issue was resolved.Work's awesome now on my 2006 F250.
