I was under my 2000 Expedition 4x4 the other day and looked at the trans and now I know that I have a drain plug on the trans pan, I also know that I have that plug that covers the torque converter. Question is that can I hand turn the torque converter or do I have to start and stop the engine a few times in order to drain the fluid?
Any tips?
Thanks ~Gage~
Don't be afraid to change the oil in your transmission. All that stuff about ruining your transmission by changing oil is myth and hogwash. Just make sure you use an oil and filter that is correct for your vehicle.
I've had my transmission flushed three times and recently changed the oil out completely with synthetic. It has over 158K miles on it and runs like a champ.
As for the filter I went to Auto Zone and all they had was a Fram filter, should I go to my dealer and buy a motorcraft? Also I can reuse the gasket too right?
Thanks ~Gage~
You need to spin the torque converter (might have to bump the motor or hand turn it) until the drain plug is accessable. Is it pobbable to hand turn the torque converter?
What if I cant drain the torque converter? Is it ok to leave the old fluid in it?
Thanks. ~Gage~
