Thinking About Installing Rancho Rsx Shocks On My Excursion. Are There Any Known Problems With This Set Up. I Do Not Drive My X Off Road, However, I Pull A 8000lb Trailer In The Mountains Every Other Weekend. Looking For Some Input. I Do Not Want To Put Out The Extra Cash For The 9000's.
I am happy with the Rancho RSX shocks that I installed this spring. I've probably put 10k miles since then. I pull a 10k pound trailer 2 or 3 times a week. I didn't feel the need for the adjustables and these saved some money.
I've talked to a few people about the RSX shocks, and they aren't worth the 80 (something) dollars you shell out per shock. People seems to be happier with Bilsteins, Monroe Reflex, and one more that I can't think of.
Considering that the Rancho RSX shocks are only $53 apiece at JC Whitney, it certainly makes them a much better buy than the other shocks you mention. That is unless there is some technical failure or reason why they are inferior. But my experience is that they work just fine even while pulling a heavy trailer.

Well in that case, go for it! When I was about to buy some, it was almost 80 (something dollars) a shock. The people I talked to didn't think they were worth it (10 to 1 they were biased ). I personally have no experience with them, but price was a factor for me. I talked to a few other X owners on this forum about the reflexes, and they like them. I'm getting some Monroe Reflex shocks from O'reilly's auto parts for only $39.99 a shock with a lifetime warranty. But before you go and buy those Ranchos from JC Whitney, do some shopping at Autozone, Oreilly's and other parts stores. You'll probably pay a little less and get more bang for your buck. Best-o-luck to ya'
I thought beginning in 2003, the Excursion came with Rancho RSX shocks. I seem to remember looking under one on the lot right off the factory delivery truck, and sure enough, a white Rancho with red boots at all four corners.
They are "branded" Ranchos on the FX4's - but some think they are not "real" ranchos... or at least don't function as well as "real" ones
From what I've read about the FX4 Ranchos, they are made by Rancho. They are made to "Ford spec's". I don't know if that means that they are differant than "other" Rancho shocks or exactly how "Ford spec's" differ from the original Rancho spec's.
Been very happy with my Rancho RSXs. Personally didn't need the adjustability of the 9000s. No more bobbing up and down like a boat when you hit a bump. I did the Hellwig anti-sway bar at the same time, so the big girl tracks level when going around curves. I paid $51 each from JC Whitney.
