now ya see if you were in the NYC area instead of chicago, you could hire a guy like me to come in and do it and spend more time here

use a wet sponge and wash it.

I hate the sanding part. Very messy. And I forgot to wear a respirator. Big mistake.

The best way to learn how to mud is to have to sand. It worked for me.

its funny but there is alot of truth to that sanding comment... i learned to mud from an italian fellow who did plaster work and ive learned alot from watching him and doing it.. now im really good at it and im doing alot of restoration on old plaster

I also hate sanding ceilings.

What I do now is prime the sheetrock, then apply the tape and mud.

That way, I use a damp sponge to smooth out the mud, and it doesn't tear into
the paper or create dust.

However, the next big job I have, I'll also write out a check.

They're much faster and do a better job than I can.

You must use good clean plaster, the proper tools, and don't sand. buy some clean sponges and get a 5 gallon bucket of clean water. After the plaster is layed smoothly 3 coats, you can do the final touch up anytime with a large flat sponge.
If corners are your problem you have the wrong knife,, buy A good pro knife (no expense spared)

I understand your frustration, been there done that. It is an art form, nailing a square piece of drywall to plumb studs is easy, but filling the cracks takes good skill and practice practice practice.

the secret is to use as little mud as possible first layer thin second layer thick thrid layer real thin
