after loosening my distributor hold down clamp and using a wire brush and penetrating oil to remove the rust around the base of the distr. shaft, i still cant budge the darned thing. i'm trying to adjust my timing. suggestions? TIA.
Just keep spraying the penetrating fluid to it and keep trying it.
Sometimes pouring some Coca-Cola(tm) on it helps too.

This happened to both of my 460's, '74 and '89. I tried the penetrating oil on both for a few days and it didn't work with either. Now I am known for lapses in judgement when I'm mad at a mechanical object, and I get pretty firmly into the belief that if it's gonna be fixed, the proccess is gonna showcase a crowbar somewhere along the line. For both I just wedged a crowbar between the block and the distributor housing and gave the bar a good yank. I went fairly easy on my '89, but with the '74, since it was already toast, I gave it everything I had. It worked with both and it's kind of a last ditch option, you just gotta make sure you don't mess up or crack your distributor housing.
Try taping on it with a hammer working it back and forth, thats what I did with mine and it worked great.
