Universal catalytic converters?
I just did this online assist inquiring about a catalytic converter and "Felix" insisted that I buy an entire new exhaust system instead of just a universal catalytic converter. He said it was cheaper and less work doing that way instead of just buying the universal and replacing it. Am I missing something here because the universal costs maybe $100 and the new exhaust costs me over $400?

Just use the Universal cat, I used one to replace my old failed cat for emission and used a GM style that doesnt require AIR while still using the AIR and passed alright. Only problem is, there isnt alot of room for welding in the new cat and you may need to find a pipe expander to rent so that you straighten out any pipe issues. Sawzall's work great for removing the old cat though.

Part# SUM-64754. i welded the reducers on the cat then bolted to exhaust. Don't forget the gaskets for them. If ya want to use a gasketless system try the Flomaster ball/socket reducers. Cost more than the Cat though.- Bob

After installation, I do not know if is because of the freer flowing cats or that the old cats were partially blocked, but the Bronco runs much better. Also had to replace the O2 sensor after the cats. Runs way better and better gas mileage. Sweet.

Anyone smogging without cats ( or gutted cats ) ? I've been told most well running cars will pass without em, but I haven't tried myself. Most people have said give it a good tune up and go. I'd appreciate any input, the PO yanked the cat's and if I don't need to replace em, I'd rather not right now.
Thanks !
