Disabling EGR?

Can anyone tell me what the pros and cons are of not hooking up and just plugging the EGR pipe that was connected to the exhaust manifold instead of going through the hassle of installing it on a set of headers?
Vehicle is a 97 F-250 460, MAF system.

I dont know much about computer controlled vehicles, but if you do what you are thinking, it might/will mess with the computer REALLY BAD! Chances are pretty good that the exaust has a sensor or two down the line that will be affected by this modification possibly causing the motor to try and make up for something that it thinks is broken (triggering the limp home mode) Cough up the extra dough for good headers with the fittings you need.

The EECIV engine management is quite sophisticated. Simply blocking the EGR will create lots of problems for you. The engine strategy for EGR operation also changes fuel pulse width and spark timing to compensate for EGR. Blocking EGR will throw the fuel mix and timing off and will quite probably generate a fault code or throw the whole thing in limp home mode until the ECU is satisfied the "problem" is fixed.

Disabling EGR?

Thanks for the info and taking the time to reply, guys.

I picked up the EGR pipe-to-exhaust elbow fitting to screw into a bung welded on the header pipe from my friendly local Ford dealer today, "only" $51 for the little gem that should cost $3- if it used standard threading. Just a 3/4" NPT male pipe fitting on one end but seems to be a metric 27x2.0 female on the other side. It would have been t-o-o simple for Ford to use a standard NPT or metric thread on *both* ends, I guess.
