well, i drove 2 5.9's today. both autos, one 2005, one 2001 for the heck of it. the 01 stock with straight pipe took 5 seconds to kick from 40-50. SLOW!!!
the 2005 still took 4-4.5 seconds. i then drove dads 7.3 tuned 60 hp and it only took ~2 seconds
Yep the are great paper weights stock. I drove Cummin common rail with a banks 6-gun. Cranked it up and it was still slow! Banks....what a waste of time!!
Last October at the diesel nationals I saw a street driven 12 valve dyno 996 horsepower......dude was pissed he didn't go over 1000. I'd say "look out" constitutes fair warning.
Luckily not all that many people have the $20-30,000 it takes to build a motor like that.
well, my dads 02 hauling my truck on our deck over trailer (about 14,000) accelerated 40-50 in 7 seconds flat on stock setting. like i say, the cummins took 5 seconds empty.
You want to talk about weak I drove my brothers 95 2500 12valve 4x4 automatic. I'am a Ford man I have had 7.3 IDI, 7.3 PSD and now 6.0 PSD my brothers Dodge you have to have your foot to the floor.
Oh ya the Dodge Cummins don't last longer than a PSD. Currently a local guy bought a 2001 Dodge Cummins 24 valve the engine has 280,000 miles on it and its shot it needs a rebuild. Truck itself is good shape it was well maintained but the engine just wore out. Even the mechanic said the Cummins life span is only 300,000 miles. He has worked on the 5.9 Cummins lots in medium duty trucks.
