I'm using the Silverstars and really like them. I'm using the factory harness and don't see any need to upgrade. I don't think the wattage is any higher, just the lumens output of the lamps themselves.
Silverstars here too on the factory harnesses. For myself, I don't really need anything more. Very bright.
Are the silverstars too hard on the factory harnesses? I was not sure, I saw another user say they had them on the factory harness and didn't mention any problems. About the ultras and silverstars, are they one in the same? I guess the upgraded harness would be best, but are you really asking for trouble with the stock harness and the foglight 9005 bulbs?

Here is the link to Sylvania's comparison of the different bulbs. The Silverstar Ultras are a rather new line. They work with the factory harness fine, but I'm clueless on the what the harness upgrades have to offer.
The wiring harness upgrade bypasses the extra, lighter OEM wiring and allows for a more direct to the battery, heavier wiring. That is supposed to allow more juice to get to the bulbs and make them brighter. I can say that I did the bulbs first, then did the harness upgrade and it did make a differance.
I've got the brite box mod, when you go HI beams, it keeps the LOW beams lit too, and also lights up the Foglights if they are not on. I know there would be lots more light and all, and with every PLUS there may be some unwanted MINUSES....I have heard horror stories about overheated reflectors and light assembles. Has anyone seen any signs of melting or overheating in the headlights or foglights? I'm just concerned that all that awesome light comes a price....too much heat, and possibly some wire problems? Just don't want to blow something out in the middle of nowhere.....at night...in the rain..with a camper behind me and no where to turnaround. That always seems to be my luck anyway
The ultras and the wiring harness with the low/high beam option were the 2nd mod I did a year ago 22,000 miles no problems with overheating. I replaced one bulb last week.
They're no more blue at night than what you see there. Those are the 8000K bulbs from http://www.xenonlink.com, and do have a slight blue tint (as you can see in the pic). If you want pure white, go with the 6000Ks. If I ever have to replace them, I'll be trying them -- not because I don't like the 8000Ks, because I like them a lot!! But because I just want to try something different.
Here is my pattern, which is just as good as the stock halogen bulbs:
If anyone wants one of the upgraded harnesses I have one that I will part with cheap or for trade. If not I am sending it back to GOS Performance tomorrow for a refund. There's nothing wrong with the harness, it just that it cannot be used in conjunction with a Brite Box. If anyone is interested shoot me a PM.
