Does anyone know where a good place to mount CB antennas? I have a 2006 F250 extended cab. I like the look of the mirror mounts, but not sure what the best way to run the cable inside the cab is.....Thanks
Mirror mounts won't work good for these trucks. Mine is mounted on the side of the tool box. I have seen a mount that is triangular shaped, it bolts to a corner inside the top edge of your box. They work well. The best would be a magnet mount on the roof.
I made my own that mounts under the toolbox along the bed rails but a few companies sell a stakepocket mount. just offering something other than a mirror mount
as running the coax into the cab. I ran it along the frame rails under the cab, I ran the coax into a grommet where the panels are along the cab flooring. ran it under the carpet to the where i have the cb sitting upright connected to the middle seat.
I have a similar body style to you, so take a look in my gallery in the Big Blue album for a couple of my install pics with my 5 footers. I used a 12 in plate and mounted it to the front rail of the bed to avoid drilling holes in my toolbox. I got a Firestik cophase harness that has tiny UHF connecters that let me run the cables through the grommets in the back of the cab, then under the trim to the fuse panel cover where I mounted my radio. PM me and I can get you pics of any of my install.
Mirror mounts wouldnt provide a ground plane on our trucks sice theyre made of plastic. Redford can answer all your antenna type questions.

I really like the look you have with the two firestiks in the back. Any extra pics of you installation would be appreciated. How hard is it to tune the two antennas?
I cant figure out how to post pics, but I just added some to my gallery. you can get some stake hole mounts like mine for around 12 bucks a piece. The antennas are around 60 for both and a coaxle cable from radio shack.

To post pics from your gallery, just find the pic you want post and click on "forum codes" underneath it, that will give you the HTML code which you just copy and paste to your post.

This is one option. Get an L shaped antenna moubnting bracket (available at most CB radio supply stores) that looks like this:
You mount it on your drivers side fender by drilling 3 small holes into the lip of the fender, as shown. The holes are hidden when the hood is closed. Antenna coax can be passed from engine compartment to cab through a firewall grommet.
The brackets come in two styles depending on what type of antenna you want to use, 3/8" mount or 3/4" mount.
I agree that a roof magnet works well. Plus I can take it off when entering parking garages without hitting it or knocking it off. Radiates well all around.
Right behind the cab on the rail is a bad place. It's not efficient and has coupling with the cab.
Also don't be fooled by a good VSWR. a 1.1:1 or better doesn't mean you're getting out any better than a 1.8:1 VSWR. I can load up a 50-ohm resister and get a 1:1 VSWR but get barely down the block. Actually the best place in in the middle of the cab roof and not on a mag mount. I have my 2/440 Larsen mounted on a perm NMO mount in the middle of the crewcab. Radio is wired directly to the battery (8-gauge wire) with fuses on both pos and neg.
It's amazing how many installs I've seen without the neg term being fused...many don't know how DC power works. But what is the problem with mag mount antennas? I agree that they definately look better (especially not having coax showing) but I use the local autowash that drags heavy cloth drapes over the truck...a perm mount antenna on the top would get wasted. Where do you stand on glass mount units (VHF)?
