I have a 2007 F-350 lariat work truck, that has the radio and climate controls on the steering wheel. To put it simple, i LOVE it. The controls are so easy to reach. When i get in my personal 2002 F-350 lariat, i always push one of the cruise control buttons thinking it's the volume. I know i don't have climate control in my truck, however is it possible to use a new steering wheel and get at least the volume an cruise control buttons to work? I'm thinking i can get the other buttons to work something like a TC lockup or something so i dont have to reach down on my dash. And another crazy question, i start my truck up and go driving, and the steering wheel is freezing cold. Does anyone make a heated one? Call me crazy.
All you need is a wheel with the Radio controls and a box that Audio Shops sell.. My buddy sells the boxes here for the D3 that makes Steering Wheel controls work.. He put one in my Mum's car (one I had the D3 installed in for Xmas).. Works like champ.. You don't need to have the factory harness or anything.. Any stereo shop, or yourself could do the wiring from the wheel controls to the D3.
Its very possible.. The the steering switches are nothing more than something that sends a signal to an electronic.. I would have to go pull the book out and looking at the wiring but I'm pretty sure it comes in with a 12V source.. then routes it much like standard switch.. Shouldn't be a problem..
That is a cool idea.. Makes me want to change my wheel too LOL
