Hey guys i am looking for a locker for my 07 f-250. I have 4:10's with an open diff. i do not want a limited slip. What I am looking for are automatic lockers. I am looking at a detriot but courius about how much noise it makes. I have ran a powertrax no-slip locker in my old truck and loved it, however powertrax doesnt make one for the ford 10.5" rearend so i am on here to find out what you guys like. thanks for the help.
The last time I had a Detroit it was in a short bed. When it would unlock, I thought the axle was falling out. Also, it would whip out in the rain; something you just needed to be aware of.
I installed ARB's in the front and rear of my '03 6.0, F250 CC, LB, SRW. It's open until you need them locked (with a flip of a switch). I can't say enough about the ARB. Plus now I have on-board air.
I have a 87 Bronco with a GM 14bolt rear and a detriot in it, oh yeah a 4spd tranny. The bigger and heavier the truck the less obnoxious the detriot is. It does bang every once in while, it does let you know it is there on the highway when you get on and off the throttle. With an automatic it is less obnoxious, I have a buddy with a bronco on 37's and a detroit and he likes it more than I like mine.
I won't say it sucks on road, but I won't say it is horible either. I like the simplicity of it (and the reason I installed the 14 bolt in the first place) I have on board air on the bronco and really didn't want to deal with running air lines to the diff etc.
I also have a lock-rite in the front of the bronco (dana 60) it seems to engage and disengage more harshly than the detroit, but that could also be because it is up front.
I don't like the detriot on snowy roads.
If you are building a serious off road rig go ahead do the detroit, my bronco is what it is, loud, burly and rough ride.
I just picked up an 2000 f250 superduty and am considering a detriot in the rear, but since it requires a new carrier anyway (unlike the gm 14 bolt) I will probably do an ARB.
