Unhappy Cold Air Intake Drop In's??

I saw a post where a truck owner claimed that AM drop-in re-useable filters, such as A&E, would "coat his fuel sensor with oil and mess up performance".
Any truth to this????? I have a drop-in at home for my 2008 V-10 and am a little reluctant to put it in until I get some more advice.

Been running a K&N for years and never had any problems with the MAF sensor. You just have to be careful not to ever oil the filter when you clean it and re-oil.

Others will say never never never run those things or your engine's longevity will suffer. I have not had any issues with the filter.

Yeap, the problem is when the filter is cleaned and re-oiled in excess. Or if the filter is not allowed to dry completlybefore re-oiling, as you know oil and water don't mix. Since the oil can't soak into the filter due to the moisture from the water it gets sucked off and pulled through the intake and all sensors along the way. This can cause the MAFS to become coated with oil. Not a big problem you just pull it apart and clean the sensor. Just take your time and don't get in a rush.
It has also been found that there are no real gains in HP due to adding an aftermarket filter. Ford seems to have researched this area pretty good and the OEM filter is hard to beat. As far as that goes there doesn't seem to be much if any aftermarket items you can put on the V-10 3V to give an encreased of power worth the money it cost. Again, Ford did something right.

I've been using the K&N filters for years with no problems. Dry the filter completely after cleaning and oil lightly with the aerosol oil not the oil in a bottle. I clean my MAF on a regular basis anyway, the MAF is important and should be cleaned regardless of filter type.

I hate paper filters. A properly oiled K&N can go several years without being cleaned and still flows almost like new.

As the other folks have said, it is true. But totally preventable at the same time. Just make sure the filter is not dripping with oil...and has had time to soak in after re-applying the oil.

Plus...when you clean your A&E filter...clean your MAF sensor too. You will not believe how well your V10 will run with a cleaned MAF sensor. Make all the difference in the world!

I've had a K&N on my truck since about a month after I drove it off the lot. I swear by it and have not had any issues with it. I used them for years in all our sand rails, atv's, motorcycles out in the Cali dunes. In fact, I just recently had to replace the filter since it got smashed while drying and wouldn't go back onto the mount. K&N sent me another for free. Not sure if that's the normal kind of customer service but they're #1 in my book.
