Pioneer makes some really good 5 1/4's but I have even read of some of the guys around here using the 6 1/2 inch speakers. I don't know how that would work or not.

But I used pioneer's 6x8 for the back of my truck. I also bought a set of rear speaker grilles out of a 92 regular cab, and installed my speakers that way.

Those 6x8's are the same as the factory speakers, and will bolt to the factory grilles.

Summit Racing caries the 6x8 speakers for around $80. But they are worth it. I have already almost blown my factory speakers in the front of my 88 F-150 out, since I put in the pioneer cd player, and the rear speakers are holding out just fine.

Summit's ph. is 1-800-230-3030

I've added a Pioneer in dash CD play to my truck. It went in no problem. The hardest part was to pull out the old radio. What I did was I took a old car radio antena and cut it into 4 peices. I put them into the removle holes and tripped the catches and it pulled right out. The new one went right into it's place. next is speaker for the door for my F-150 and the bronco. I'll do that when the weather warms up in the North East!

I always use Pioneer head units, and I love them. Pioneer also makes very nice component speakers, but if you are planning on using big amps for your components, I suggest using MB Quart or Infinity speakers.

Good Luck

I am a major fan of the DENON head units, they're just hard to find in the USA. The Pioneer units would be my second choice. The Denon units such as the DCT-1000r are great units, but they would require that you wire in your own amplifier as they have only pre-outs. IMHO, don't get a head unit with all of the fancy geegaws and "lights of Ginza" on the front panel. It takes a Phd just to configure the things and driving down the road trying to push buttons and turn ***** like George Jetson did is a little risky.

As to speakers, I would definately try to use round speakers and not oval speakers to replace the stock units. If oval speakers are so great, then why do all of the "high End" speaker manufacturers make only round speakers. You can make adapter plates using 1/4" baltic birch ( coat them with urethane sealer so that they don't take on moisture ) with a router or a jig saw.

Best regards,

Bender

OH NO! The Pioneer fans are taking over. Just kidding.I run all Alpine but no matter what you buy you can get an aftermarket wiring harness that will butt splice onto your deck harness and plug right into your factory plugs indash.

I myself really like Sony, I heard their CD componenets were "best". For my pick-up, I plan to put in a Sony mini-disc player with CD changer controls so that I can add a Sony CD-changer later on. For speakers, if I can find the right sized Sonys at the right price I'll buy Sony, but so far I think I'll end up using Pioneer speakers. I plan to get everything from www.discountcarstereo.com, so I want to stick with brands I know(why I plan to use Sony or Pioneer).
