I have a 2004 4x4 Expedition 5.4l 40k mi, with tow package. Looking at pulling a 31' 7700lb travel trailer with a weight distribution package/sway bar/brake package, and was wondering about the transmission holding up over the long haul. Was wondering if anyone would recommend any of the following.. synthetic in the engine and rear differential, transmission control unit, or will just the O/D off be sufficient, and a temp gauge for the transmission. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
If you have the 4r100 tranny, it's the same unit used in the super duty trucks so don't worry too much about it underperforming. I don't know how big your tranny cooler is, but it wouldn't hurt to install the largest one out there.
Your rear end should already be filled with synthetic.
2003 and 2004 used the 4R70W (No such thing as a 4R75W).All the expys came with two hitches. This does not mean you have the heavy duty 536 option package. Do you have a 7 pin harness? The large square tranny cooler?
