whats the difference

any one know what the difference between a 97 flairside bed and a 2005 flairside bed

Not positive on that one, you could probably get the specs of the beds out on the internet. I know 97-03 Flareside beds should be identical but the new style is more "boxier" than the older ones.

05 bed is shaped different and taller.

are you thinking about installing a newer bed on the older truck? if thats it, i did a similar job years ago. what i did was go to the local dealer on a sunday, park my truck next to the new model, and compare wheel base to bumper, break lines, mounts, etc with a ruler--- by the way, a Chevy 93 stepside fiberglass bed looks great on a 69 C10 short frame.
