It gives you a little higher boost pressure. The computer send a signal to open the wastegate and since it wouldn't be connected, it won't open as soon. No spool difference, just a little more pressure. I didn't see any benefit at all, so I put it back and left it alone.
Just my experience with it. Others will chime in I'm sure. Only way to tell for yourself is to try it. Just plug the connector fitting on a screw so it doesn't suck any crap into the line.

this is something that shouldnt be done unless you have a boost gauge..going over 25lb of boost for too long will take out the bearing..take the red line off of the turbo and plug the red line on the stud of the IC clamp..this keeps the wast gate closed..you will feel faster spool up and be able to build 30 lb of boost with a chipped truck..

I leave mine off. It seems to have more pep even before max boost, which seems to be 2-3 psi higher without it (this is with the DP). I was getting lots of surge as well, but after installing the Wicked Wheel, no more problems. And I only get about 25 or so PSI in the summer. I notice a little more in the winter when it's colder (obviously), so I have to watch the gauges better. With the wastegate on, I get about 22-23 in the summer -- haven't tried it in the winter.
BTW, the red line is a pressure line, not a vacuum. You won't "suck anything in", but it is better to plug it, since it would be a small boost leak if left open.

How many turns did you rotate the acuator rod? I only turned mine 2 or 3 times toward the flap (passenger side) while I had it apart. Is that enough to hold it tighter?

removing that tube is a bigggg no no!!! I had mine removed for about 30 minutes when i installed me first edge evolution...i was running it as hard as i could since it was a new chip on my stock truck, was having a little fun, i was about 20 minutes away from my house and it started squealing real bad.... started heading home and the squealing stoped, and about 10 seconds later i heard a pop. engine had no power and blew white smoke like crazy! turbo = toast! all of that happened, having more then 25psi for as mush as i could in 30 minutes! taking that hose off cost me over 800$ FOR A STOCK TURBO! I had no money at the time and thats all dad would lend me....so no no to taking off the hose! oh, and by the way, it made no difference.
