[QUOTE=viperbluelx]I got a SES light from the HPOP being to weak with mine unplugged. Funny thing is I tightened the wastegate rod and hooked the actuator back up and now I get the same boost as I had with the line off, but no SES light.[/QUOTE
I was confusing the wastegate rod with the EBPV rod. That was the rod I adjusted when I did the turbo install. the rod that forces the back pressure valve shut on the exhaust side of the turbo. My logic was to crank that adjuster toward the flap to hold it shut with a little more force. Is this a valid line of thinking?
removing that tube is a bigggg no no!!! I had mine removed for about 30 minutes when i installed me first edge evolution...i was running it as hard as i could since it was a new chip on my stock truck, was having a little fun, i was about 20 minutes away from my house and it started squealing real bad.... started heading home and the squealing stoped, and about 10 seconds later i heard a pop. engine had no power and blew white smoke like crazy! turbo = toast! all of that happened, having more then 25psi for as mush as i could in 30 minutes! taking that hose off cost me over 800$ FOR A STOCK TURBO! I had no money at the time and thats all dad would lend me....so no no to taking off the hose! oh, and by the way, it made no difference.
That's why you don't overboost your turbo. Brief surges over 25 it will take. Constantly pushing that hard (especially if it was already going) will take it out. If you had the stock wheel, it was probably surging badly, too. Mine did that, so I didn't push it hard until I got the Wicked Wheel. Now, I can hardly overboost (WW moves less air than stock), and no more surging. I've had my red line off coming up on a year now. It's staying that way.
I ran mine unplugged for about a year with no turbo issues. Did it help? Seat of the pants meter says maybe. Boost gauge seemed to confirm it. After a year of occasional 30psi runs, there was no play in the bearing at all. I don't have a wastegate anymore so the red line and green line are gone altogether.
BTW, the red line is a pressure line, not a vacuum. You won't "suck anything in", but it is better to plug it, since it would be a small boost leak if left open.
You're absolutely correct. I'm glad you caught that. I probably never would of read my post again.
I was on the phone most of the morning with my nephew in CA. walking him through some questions he had at the tail end of a 302 rebuild he's done on his '68 Mustang. I was helping him with distributor issues, and must of still had vacuuum on the brain. That, and my youngest daughter vacuuming my wallet for it's contents for tuition for her final semester.
