I have thought about adding a small clear light within the lens of my stock shield on my 56 for back-up lights, as mine is a driver. Should be simple, clean.. Likely not even notice it until it comes on.
I do not have them. I learned very quickly why every one in my car club backs in when the park in the late afternoon. You cannot see well to back out of a space. Now I back in and the problem is solved.
The real question for us Bonus Built guys with stock drivetrains, how to turn them on and not forget to turn them off? Some kind of timer would seem like the answer. A switch on the trans seems a little too complicated/unreliable. Maybe not, anyone done it?
I am also interested in back up light ideas. I am over on the dark side a bit and have not come up with a nice non conspicuous back up light. I am reasonably stock in outside appearance but am more subtle with the lights, using 42-48 ford car tail lights in the original rolled "pan" just below the lip of the bed floor.
49willard beat me to the punch. When I first made my truck driveable I had some tailights similar to what Nathan posted at the top of this thread. Since I changed over to my old Chrysler hosuing I don't have the back up lights anymore...bummer.
I figured I could find somethint unobtrusive somewhere. lately I've seen several sets of the 42-48 car reverse lights on ebay. I think I'll probably end up witht hem installed as 49willard described.
Sounds like two different problems,Bonus built/manual trans owners have no way /unreliable swx,; a momentary/push-button some where easy to get to might fix this one,..the auto trans owners should have a range swx on trans to steal/use ..any more ideas??..as for the lamps themselves..sky"s the limit, personal taste
