I've already searched but cant find the exact thing I was looking for. I remember viewing a post that had a MS Paint drawing of the different hose configerations, anyone remember who posted? I have the overflow tank setup, not the degas setup. I assume that the hose comming off the water pump goes to the inlet of the filter and the hose going to the passenger head to the outlet, correct? Where are guys getting your fittings, I've seen one where its a 5/8" tee that threaded into the NAPA filter housing while others is a standard tee with a short hose going to the filter housing. I've looked in Home Depot and Lowes and neither had either type, but I'm gonna try the local hardware store.
This is the filter unit that I installed. It is complete with all fittings including shut off valves when you change the filter. I recommend this unit plus installations instructions included.
I installed mine on the drivers side just forward of the hood spring. Run the intake line along the top of the firewall with the other wires and such.
The heater hose that comes off of the passenger side of the block and runs to the heater on the pass. side is the pressure line the other hose that exits the heater and runs to the top of the water pump is the return line.
TJ installed the Napa filter as I recall and he installed his in a different manner and routed his hoses differently as well.
Just go to the link and scroll down to the coolant filter section.
That filter is nice. I never knew Dieselmann had that stuff! But He is pretty proud of his parts!! WOW!! There is really no need for the valves as the as long as there isn't pressure on the system it dribbles out. You can buy a filter kit from Napa for around $40 plus some hose and T's.
Also Rog and I had a discussion a while back about how the plumb these up and just last week I saw some info that shows he was right! So for the record Rog you were right about my plumbing not being the best setup. Plumb it in like he said. Supply pulled from heater hose come of the passenger side head and return either to the deguass bottle or the other heater hose.
When I checked with Napa re their filter set up which is the cast iron mount and when you add the filter, the hoses, clamps and the tees the filter kit that I got was really not that more. I don't recall the exact difference but for the little extra I just went for the kit.
Roger the easiest way to post pics is to sign up for a webshots account. Upload the photo's there then either link them on here or Webshots has a spot you can copy and paste the code to just post the pic.
Thanks for the pictures joe_13894. Where does that red hose go to?
The red one goes to the bottom tank on the radiator. Not sure what it does, possibily it keeps the transmission warm in cold weather? It was tapped into the heater supply line with a T, so I just kept it in the supply side.
Kawa: Napa is expensive, base was $45 and filter was $12. I ordered from fleetfilter, $25 base and $6 filter. I saved $20 overall.
I don't remember how much I paid, but it didn't seem like it was that much. I did this install 3 years ago.
