Some one actually bought it ? Fricken amazing .The buyer must be another candidate for self pentince .Yikes ,and I thought the stock truck I am rebuilding is a challenge .Whoa
was you watching the rerun last night ? that fool paid 6k for a comparo that woulda got maybe a grand here . so you cali guy's tell me is that normal or is he just stupid ? another alternative is he's spending someone else's money . if that's the case they're stupid !!!!!!!!!
I'm in Cali and in general the cars here do go for more than say the midwest etc. One reason is the cars here rarely have rust and are in decent shape to restore. Personally, the condition of that 69 was pretty bad, and I think he paid more than he should. But he was desperate to find a 69 Camaro that needs work. Sometimes they just aren't there and can be difficult to find especially when your on time restraints.
AX- I know several mechanics here in CA, and the usual hourly rate is $70-$80. Most won't even give you advise for under $50. I don't know where he's figuring in man hours costs, but I believe they aren't telling you the truth about actual costs invested into the cars. Remember, he gets paid nicely from the producers of the show, not to mention all the benefits that go along with it. He probably could care less about making a profit at an auction. He's getting paid regardless.
No, it still has just short of two days....the bids have gone over $3500, though. We'll know in a couple days, what it goes for...
Hey, there's probably $1000 in bondo in that front sheet non-metal alone! That would seriously scare me, a sculptor job! Rough-hewn out of a block of bondo!
I just started reading this today to see what all the fuss is about. Some people should not be allowed to use power tools. I love this line in the description:
"This truck is an older restoration, that still has alot of eye appeal."

He does start with some really ???? cars sometimes. You'd think he'd be hunting all the time and have better examples stockpiled somewhere. I do expect a lot of the parts are donated for the mention and that dictates what cars are built. The "spendometer" is pretty bogus, as is the profit from the build. I realize it a TV show, but these guys are doing a serious disservice to the hobby. I guarantee I could not push a wreck like that Cammo into BW's shop and get a like build for the "spendometer price".
Same with American Chopper, to have a custom chopper built on the show they charge a flat $1 mill!
I've spoken to Barry at a few car shows and he's much more presentable than Boyd Coddington. Barry has connections with a junk yard here in Wilmington, CA called Memory Lane. The owner has tons of connections on classic type vehicles and that is what his wrecking yard specializes in. Barry usually calls him to find out if he has any complete wreckers for an episode on the show, if not, his crew resorts to the internet or classifieds. One thing to remember, television is television, nothing is for real on television. I still like the show. I'd like to know whole this elderly fat gentleman is who always bids at auctions. The same guys wins all of Boyd's cars and now he's bidding on every car Barry auctions off. Who is this guy and how many vehicles does he own????? In fact, maybe Barry is the top bidder on this 50 truck on ebay. I'd love to watch that episode.
well i would've given him 5 for it .... five dollars that is . ya know if whoever buy's it joins were gonna have a lot of questions and someone feeling kinda silly bout it especially after they go through our classifieds here ....... if i'd had it i woulda give him 500 just for parts .
That's what we in KY call a GOM!! For all of you who don't know what a GOM is, it's a mess beyond repair. Of course in this case, it could be cut out and a whole new dash put in it's place.
Maybe if we had enough of Bobby's frosty's it might look good???
God Offal Mess I believe is the proper translation for G.O.M.
And heartily agree, Lord Love a Duck, what a G.O.M.
Got to the lake - The Boat would not start no matter what. We ended up shore fishing. Got the boat back home. I turned the Radio on and hit the key and the boat fired right up. He spliced into the Coil circuit and when the Radio was turned on, it lit right up.
Sounds like a good anti-thieft device to me, who'd think to turn the radio on first.
