Looks like silicone sealer to me .I'll bet that was to keep the vibration down. Nice dash insert also. Rodger , you find a rear bumper yet ? Did any of the leads work out ? How did the referral in Idaho treat you ? The ribbed rear bumper for my stock truck will be here thur. Christmas in January for me .
On the subject, reminds me of an old buddy of mine - always in a hurry, shortcuts for EVERYthing, he would use duct tape to hold twisted wires together, etc, etc, and had NO patience, whatsoever. I worked on him for a lot of years, to get him to do things right, build jigs for repetitive cuts and layouts, etc, etc.
Well, he bought a '69 Chummy 4 X 4, and put in a very expensive stereo. And he was SO proud of himself! He picked me up, and he had run all the wires carefully (not laying on the floor), wire-ties everything together, soldered all connections and heat-shrinked them, bolted the ground to the body, etc, etc, etc. I was pretty proud of him, too.
About a week later, he picked me up, we got down the road, and the radio just up and quit working. He was pretty pissed, and told me it had been doing that a few days, but would turn back on, after a bit.
Later in the day, it cut off again, and he reached over, and jerked the ****, turning it off. I could see the steam building up to burst. It did about 30 seconds later. He picked up a Makita cordless drill, with a bit in it, and repeatedly stabbed the radio, smashing the front of the radio, busting it all to pieces, the display was hanging out by the ribbon cable.
I casually reached over, turned what was left of the ****, and the radio came on!! We laughed for quite a while.
Several days later, when he picked me up, he said "remember the radio??". Of course I did. He went further to tell me it was trying to tell him something. Like that his regulator was charging at almost 20 volts!! He found out, when he boiled his battery. The radio had an overvoltage protection, and was indeed, trying to protect him.
That radio stayed exactly like that, for 5 years, until he sold the truck...
I'd say plywood, 3/4" A/C Fir picked up out of the scrap pile on a building site Notice the PREfessional chamfering of the edges to give it a finished look.
My best friend and were goin fishin.... He had a nice little 15" boat with an 80hp Johnson we'd used many times. He decided to install a Radio so we could have some tunes while trolling......
Got to the lake - The Boat would not start no matter what. We ended up shore fishing. Got the boat back home. I turned the Radio on and hit the key and the boat fired right up. He spliced into the Coil circuit and when the Radio was turned on, it lit right up.
