Can I do it?

Do a search, this topic has been discussed to death in the past.
Yes, you can if you are careful. Your trailer has to be condusive to the idea, as well as ALWAYS remembering you need to be careful. You can purchase slider hitches that give you more space, as well as offset gooseneck hitches if you are thinking about gooseneck trailers rather than fifthwheel.

Yes you can but you need a slider hitch! Many 5th wheel brands claim you don't need one due to the design in the front (angled corners) but the first time you hit a low side (ditch or pot hole) while backing it will almosy surely put the trailer into the back window. I pull a 36' Colorado with a shortbed 250 and did a lot of research. I opted to go with the Pullrite self ajusting slider. It cost more but is easy to remove (other than the weight) whe nyou need the bed. Most importantly it is totally automatic! I can due a 90 turn and not hit.
You never have to worry about getting out and releasing the slider. Look at their websight. http://www.pullrite.com/

Been pulling for over 15 years and never had a problem with the short box. But you have to be aware of the corners on the leading edge of the trailer. And you back slow and don't jack-knife. Make sure you have a fiver where the hitch tongue extends past the edge of the trailer. Happy trailering.

you can do it but it is a very good idea to get an automatic slider hitch. i have a long bed and i can get pretty close to my cab. with a short bed i could see that being a real problem. you can get a manual slider but i am stupid and would forget to use it. if it is automatic then it is dumby proof. a big plus for me.
