'72 429 hp??

hey, it's going to be right around 220 h.p. and i don't have my ford manual to find out what the torque is.. now don't forget after 1971 ford changed the way they rated their engines for h.p... even with the changes these engines , ( i feel ) still put out at least 275 h.p. i'm sure someone has a manual that has the torque numbers. so 220 is what the factory rates these motors. '72 429 hp??

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Jun-02 AT 10:03 AM (EST)]The source book I'm looking at lists two different hp ratings for the 1972 429 engine. The first listing is 205(net)@4,400rpm,and the other is 212(net)@4,400rpm.My guess is the 205 versions went into mid-sized cars, while the land barge-sized cars got the 212 hp version. This book doesn't list torque specs(why,I don't know...???),but 460 engines generally had 357-365 lb.-ft. of torque ratings through the mid-to-late '70s,so the 429 engine's rating was a bit lower.(The 460 for 1972 is listed at 224(net)@4,400rpm.)In 1973(the 429's last year in cars), the ratings were 197(net)@4,400rpm,and 201(net)@4,400rpm.I also think Ford didn't tell the whole truth with the 1972 429's rating. It was probably more like 245 net horsepower.I'll have to find that source book that lists torque specs. The two engine codes for '72&'73 the 429 engines were 'K' for the "Thunder Jet 429 V-8",and 'N' for the "Thunderbird 429 V-8".
