poor starting
Hi guys, ive got a 87 f250 with a 460 runs great and starts great except in the morning, I have to pump it alot to start and then feather it or it will stall. it has an electric choke that looks to be working but once its running its still rough for afew minutes. any ideas? thanks

The housing on electric chokes are usually adjustable by rotating. You'll need to check in a service manual to see what setting is recommended to start with or you can experiment by rotating toward the rich or lean side, letting your engine cool, and then refire to see how it runs. Deen

Mine had the same exact problem, come to find out that the part of the Fast Idle cam on the choke setup had broken off and it was no longer fast idleing. If it is let me know i have the ford part number some where and ford is the only place you can get this item.

I had this problem with my 72 f100 with a 70 lincoln 460 when I replaced my carb. It ran great when warm (>140 degrees), but I had to feather the throttle to keep from stalling until I got there. Silly me, it was a simple matter of reconnecting all the vacuum lines properly (vacuum advance and PCV valve).
I would look for vacuum leaks around the carb and gaskets and check your idle/float screws. Ignore all this if you are efi..
