Funny question(sort of), what's the coffee can thing on my passenger fender skirt under the hood? It has 2 vacuum lines connected to it. 1990 f150. Is this some sort of vacuum reservoir? Thanks
Vacuum reservoir.... just as a sidenote (I haven't done this yet but I thought I'd pass on the idea / tip). I have two Fords with these rusty-old-can lookin' things. If you can handle a GM part on your Ford.... a lot of GM trucks and vans have round plastic canisters (plastic = NO RUST EVER). Have been thinking about swapping mine out just for the sake of not having to wonder if-and-or-when it's going to leak / start leaking....
the reservoir is an added measure to help supply the extra vacuum needed for the number of items that require the vacuum. in the old days I had a car that had vacuum whippers and under hard acceleration and low to no vacuum in the engine they would stop, the canister that is properly sealed and large enough will eliminate that trouble, the autos today use a large amount of vacuum to operate different items. The 95 aerostar has plastic system too though I think its to small for practical use.
I bought a tomato juice can for 69 cents to replace mine. cut the bottom off new can to install the vacumm mechanism, fastened in place and caulked. Then tig welded a piece of sheet metal back on the can.
