I first used Firefox back in late 2004 out of necessity when a PC game website, I admin for, was hit by an annoying Russian made exploit that hit my server's host IP (it was a widespread hit...not just us). It would enter through the ActiveX and leave a backdoor trojan for members using IE. Easily taken care of and the exploit was rooted out by my server host, but anyone using FireFox was not affected. So I downloaded it to run the site with. I would have continued using it but most websites were not FireFox "friendly" back then, so I went back to IE after the fix.
Started using it again, when my son lent me his extra computer after my previous computer crashed back in September 2007. He uses FireFox as his main browser and I became acquainted with it all over again
After getting the new computer in November, I downloaded Firefox and use it as the main browser. I did upgrade it's IE to IE7 as some sites still only allow it. Although IE7 seems more secure, I rarely use it. Actually unless you really "run wild" through the Internet, IE is fine for most users.
However, while scanning with Ad Aware or other anti spyware programs, I found Firefox is alot more secure compared to what I used to get using the IE. My Ad Aware scans with IE7 are more like FireFox now, I still feel safer with the latter.
FireFox does have some good extra security add ons you can get too. I have McAfee SiteAdvisor and Adblock on mine.
