Greetings everyone. A fast and easy question. Has anyone had any experiance with the product called EZ Down tail gate assist. I need one of these or something like it. My wife smacked her shoulder opening mine at my son's last hockey game. Any good experiances or bad. Doestail gate life up as easy as they drop down?
I had the EZ Down on my 04 F150 and I swear by it! This is a great add-on that the factory should include on all PU's. There is absolutely no downside that I can think of and it has no effect on closing the 'gate.
Mine works great and I would purchase one again. There is slightly more effort needed to close the tailgate, but it's far more safe to lower it into the open position. Perfect for kids and ladies!
BTW, the instructions state to remove the lower rubber spacer/bumper from the tailgate but mine works fine with it in place.
I have been looking at the EZ down too and wondered how well it worked. Looks easy to install from web pictures. Will probably order one.
Anyone know of something similar after market that will help with both up and down?
Those with the EZ down. Can you still take the tailgate off easily? I would like to have the EZ down but I am always taking the tailgate off for easy access to the bed.
Yes. It is connected on a special double bolt assemble adjacent to the cable and slips off the same way as the cable. There is a small spring metal piece that has to be flexed a bit to slide it off but still pretty easy. Just do that side first and then the other side that has only the cable and voila its off. The weight of the tailgate is the hardest part.
Great product!! Put one on four months ago and it works great. My wife can open the tailgate now without getting a hernia. It also helps when you are carrying something and don't have a free hand, just reach up and quickly grab it and let go to grab what you are carrying again and the tailgate drops nice and slow!! Best price I could find was ebay - about $45 or $50.
