just got a 90 b2 2.9. i have the throwout chatter but it grinds in 2nd and wont go into 1st as well as feeling like the gears are skipping in reverse. to the best of my knowledge i have a fm 146 tranny and a bw 1350 t case. should i just get a rebuilt tranny or rebuild the one i have? any help would be greatly appreciated.
i know some of the problem is the clutch. but unsure if the tranny is an issue. judging by the jumping while in gear im leanin towards a tranny. but im not a tranny guy.
Most likely a bad slave cyl, I had grinding in my 3rd gear until I did the clutch. Went away after that. The problem is a bad one does not fully release.
You could do what I did.
Replace
1) pilot bearing
2) clutch disc, pressure plate
3) throw out bearing
4) flywheel
Refill with syn gear oil. Made my FM-146 in my 1988 almost brand new.
Plus, I resealed the bottom plate while I had it out and resealed the transfer case connection. Stopped all the minor leaks. I decided to take it easy on myself and refilled it from the shifter.
I am running syn gear oil in the BW1350 too. I need to do more driving, but, with syn gear oil in the tranny/transfer and semi-syn oil in the engine I seems I picked up about 1 mpg.
ok im already lookin into gettin a clutch and possibly a flywheel. but now my tranny wont go into first. engine on or off it wont go into first. but im gonna pull the tranny and check it out. i got some people at the ford dealership lookin for parts and stuff but when i tell them it a mits. fm146 tranny, they have no idea what im talkin bout. but ive got some time to figure that out cuz my truck is stuck in my dads front yard. the clutch went last night. anybody from huntsville al or know of a good junkyard around huntsville al?
