If the scumbag keeps the GPS system and uses it himself, I would think there is some way to track him. Check with the GPS manufacturer, especially if you registered the equipment with them for warranty purposes.
That's a good thought. I would think they could track it that way.
This is the reason why I love my .357 Magnum. It has a tendency to scare people off from me.
Mark, I hope the kids are okay. Things we see as relatively simple/commonplace can be traumatic on kids.
Look into the replacement door handles that have the anti-jimmy plate in place. The door handles are a easy access point unfortunately. The replacement handles help prevent entry like the thief did in your case.

Guns are great...but you gotta be there to use 'em. Keeping them in your truck and having them get stolen leads to HUGE problems down the road. Imagine if a child got shot with your gun after it was stolen out of your truck...
I hope you guys don't keep them in your truck all the time.
Sorry to hear that!! I hate that feeling.. I've been there myself and wouldn't wish it on anyone. Could have been worse and been the truck itself. Hope everything gets better for you..
Mark sorry to hear of the break in, Sucks big time.
I cannot stress enough to hide the gps units, and if leavs a black ring on the windshield, clean it. We have had several work trucks get broken into and gps units stolen. Most of the time they break the window as others have stated. If they are going to break into my ex, I would rather them use a slim jim than break a window though.

It was hidden and I use a friction dash mount, sp there was no 'ring' on the windshield.
I'm not 100% sure how they got in... no broken glass, door handles intact and not pryed. The key no longer works onthe passenger side and it looks like that lock has been tampered with; is it possible to use a screw driver to 'jimmy' the lock? With all other evidence absent, I have to assume that they used a slim-jim or something.
hey i disabled my lock rods in my 97 because a guy came by my house with a blank key when i lived in phoenix arizona, and said "bet i can get in your truck in 10 seconds" I was angry when he said that and said "bull***** show me" next thing you know he pulls the blank key out of his pocket and pushed in and out of the keyhole wiggling it and POP unlocked my door came! i could not believe it.. so i spent the next few hours removing my door panels and pulling the lock rod off the key cylinder for the exterior door lock.. now a key wont open it.. i use my remote..

Very possible. Young scumbugs are getting much smarter thanks to the Internet. Heck, they can even buy locksmith tools on the Internet now.
Reminds me of a true story. The last sheriff I worked for allowed us to open cars for people when they locked their keys in their cars. One cold winter night 2 of us responded to a girl's house. It was too cold for me, so I sat in my car and watched the other deputy. After about 6 or 7 minutes he gave up and said it was useless. I kinda snickered, stepped out into the cold winter air, walked to her car, and had the door unlocked in 3 seconds flat.I made my fellow deputy feel a little better by telling him I was able to do it so quickly because it was a matter of life and death.... that I damn sure didn't want to freeze to death!

Ray you make an excellent point...how many people REALLY use their keys anymore?
My '05 only has the DRIVERS door keyed and the rear glass hatch.
Besides the key fob...I have the touch pad to open the door...
When it gets a tad warmer...I beleive my rod lock on the drivers door is getting disconnected...
I dunno, if they want in they will get in, I still rather have my door jimmied than a window smashed to bits.
mark sounds like you took every step to ensure everything is outta site. Still sucks though. I went camping last aug and my hoe got broken into. Just make ya mad as hell.
