Ok, My truck has problem starting in this Florida winter (very cold 38 . I thought it was the CPS, but as I have read, if the tach bounces on crank, then it is not that and mine does. When I cycle the plugs 3-4 times it seems to crank with a puff of white smoke.
Could be the relay, will replace it when I buy it. My question is this 99.5 f350 is very different than my old 93 f250. The Glow plugs were very easy to reach and very visible.
I have noticed this is not true on my f350. I might be blind but I hope not. Where are they and is this a job or is it simple. I tried to find the section in my Haynes techbook but it just tells you how to test them.
The glow plugs are under the valve covers. Not too hard to replace. They connect electrically thru an under valve cover harness(uvch). While you are in there you should check this harness out thourouhly. There has been some isuse with them getting shorted or more frequently partially disconnected at the connection through the gasket.
here is a great link yo see what im talking about.https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/2...or-wiring.html
And here is a link to a wep page of all sorts of maintanance step by step instruction.http://7point3.com/Mods.aspx
The valve covers are reusable. But ford does sell clips to hold them togeather. It is shown in one of the step by steps
I'd test your relay first and make sure it's working properly. The valve covers aren't that hard to remove, it's just getting all the stuff out of the way to get to them.
As mentioned, triple check the UVCH plugs to make sure they're tight and make sure none of the wires are chaffing or rubbing. The rubber valve cover gasket is re-usable.
