PCV, smog stuff
Question: Is what I am doing helping or hurting. Will the PCV system still function? I can replace the stock stuff for smog testing, but I just don't want to mess things up.
Thanks for your advice.
1. The air pump(s) intake air. If they take it from the ir cleaner you will have to either route the hoses to the air cleaner or create an air cleaner for the air pump as this air must be filtered.
2. The pcv system must have two things to operate properly. First of all on one end the breather. The breather takes filtered air (usually from the air cleaner) and is routed to one valve cover. The other half of the system uses manifold vacuum routed through a vacuum hose to a pcv valve. This p.c.v. valve is fitted into a rubber grommet in the valve cover opposite of the breather. When this system is in place it will draw any crank case fumes into the intake manifold to be burned. It also reduces chances of oil leaks by reducing the pressures in the crankcase acting on seals and gaskets.
3. An open element air cleaner DOES NOT create more power than a stock style air cleaner that draws cool outside air. This is if the stock style air cleaner does not pose a restriction to flow.
Hope this helps Good luck!!!
