Is there any type of adjustment? Or is it automatic adjustment? My pedal goes all the way to the floor and barely holds the truck. Is the only cure going to be new parking brake shoes?
Thanks
Rich
Are you sure the cables are not stuck? It doesn't take much for dirt and some corrision to make them stick. If they stuck and you drove it a while the pads may be worn. Just a thought.
had this happen on my old Super Duty. I think the parking brake is self adjusting, but i had evidently got mud or sand (or both ) built up in the parking brake drum of the rotor and the shoes wore down and glazed over so they wouldn't hold at all. Put new parking brake shoes on and then the cable to the pedal snapped! Replaced the cable and all was good again.
You do have an adjustment for the parking brake shoes,on SOME trucks there is an adjustment hole to get at a star wheel located inside where the brake shoes for the parking brake is located,it is on the inside of the backing plate on the bottom,it will be oval shaped, you may have to ''punch'' it out to get to it,if you do have to punch it out,you have to take off the rotor to get to the ''coupon'' that you will get.It is not self adjusting, there is no adjustment on the cable like the older vehicles, but it should not be out of adjustment, unless the truck has been driven with the e-brake on,or maybe some mud/sand may have gotten in there and done their job on the linings, either way,it may not be a bad idea to take to the rotors off and take a look, while you are there, get some lube and lube all the contact points where the shoes contact the backing plate, clean everything up,take the adjuster out and clean it up and lube it.If they are worn or glazed over, replace them.Get a hardware kit if you replace them,it will have all new springs ect in it.While you have all this apart, dont forget to inspect your rear pads,it may be about time for replacement on those too.
Thanks for the info. Thats right, I forgot about the star adjuster. funny thing is, that I actually removed that rubber plug inthe backing plate to see if the dealer actually fixed the leaky rear wheel seal....which they din't . Back to them it went and they replaced both sides.......Anyhow, I will try and run the star adjuster up a bit and see if that helps.
Thanks
Rich
What may have happened since you just got the axle seals replaced,is that the dealer may have loosened the e-brake a little to get the rotor off and did not re-adjust.
