Wow! Would that work on a 2003 F250 as well? I have been climbing under and adjusting the star wheel through the back plate. I'll have to try it. Good parking brake adjustment is important for those of us who drive handshakers.
The rear brakes of the SD's have two parts. A hydraulic disc brake setup for the service brakes, and a mechanical drum brake setup for the parking brake. The disc brake is setup just like the front. However, there is a mini drum inside the hub of the rotor. And yes, there is a little star adjustment wheel for tightening that. It hides behind the little oval rubber plug on the backside of the hub. The reverse method should work, but i've never actually tried it.
I did a search on dieselstop.com and found this post:
First ensure the cables L and R are free and move in the sheath..... retract.
Adjust up the rear brakes "not the cable": by manually or by backing up and firmly applying the main brakes.......this causes the star adjuster to work.......you may have to do this up to 10+ times.
I do it by backing up 2-5 mph and applying the main service brakes....stop, drive forward and stop... you will feel the service brake pedal become effective a little higher each time. Check the park brake application occasionally to see if it is improving........ remember to release it before continueing.
Now i'm confused !
He says press the 'main service brakes' does this mean the 'slowdown' brakes or the 'dont roll away when i'm not there' brakes?
I tried it yesterday about three times, seemed to get a little better. You really need an empty parking lot or something. I was using the emergency brake and holding the release mechanism out while applying the parking brake in reverse.
