If you go to the junkyard, you will probably end up with the same poor unit that everyone else has. Maybe the Ford dealer has a new improved unit? If they have this many problems, the mechanics there probably know all about it.
Would this be the same problem that I have in the dash?
If it is. Then I have no problem in fixing it.
I know the old flourescent displays where bad about dimming out. Or losing the gas in the module.
Oh, your problem is in the instrument cluster? For some reason I thought it was the computer in the overhead console. Sorry.
If you do any changes to the instrument cluster, you usually have to go to the dealer to get them to re-program it. It has a microprocessor with an address in the network in your truck.
You may want to go to the superduty forum and do a search on "odometer" or "cluster" and see if there any common problems with them that match yours. That's how I found out about the overhead console problem.
