i have a 92 f-105 with a 300 I-6 it has 3.08s and its 4x4 i just bought the truck recently and i went to the library and got a chiltons manual and from what i understand there is a m50d and a zf something dont remember but it said it was a 5 speed at which i dont think they made so i was just wondering if anyone could help identify my tranny ive took off in second with which i hear a mazda wont do so ill appreciate any help
I think the ZF's came on the more heavy duty trucks F250's and F350's. I could be wrong. If you look in your door jam, do you see a trans code on the tag?
Well I dont have the list of codes, but the Code letter should be in the door jam. If you get the letter we will be able to tell you what trans you have.
If, by chance, your door tag doesn't give you the info you need, look underneath your truck and see if there are "cover plates" on the sides of your transmission. If there are, you have the ZF, and these are the PTO (power take-off) access panels. If not, you likely have the Mazda transmission.
As stated before, the ZF was typically installed in the HD F-250's and F-350's, but it has been known to show up in some select F-150's from time to time.
And yes, there are trucks that have transmissions other than the ZF that start off in 2nd. I know some of the 4speed 300 I-6 trucks were equipped with a "low", then 2 3 and 4.
This is from another Ford Fourm So I didnt put link.
