Keep getting cel on a pattern of when I fill up the gas tank. If I dont fill up it doesnt do it (at least not right away).
Code is P1443
-replaced gas cap - didnt do it
-replaced solenoid valve with one from autozone - didnt do it
-replaced all vacuum hoses from canister - didnt do it
-replaced vacuum vent line from fuel tank to canister - didnt do it
-have not replaced solenoid switch (the little thingy in line after the solenoid valve)
-what/where is the fuel tank pressure sensor? this is one of the things autozone said it could be from the P1443 code.
If anyone has experienced this please let me know the outcome
Thanks
Ok. I have charcoal canister then hose to canister purge valve then hose to canister purge solenoid then hose to intake. Is this the correct terminology?
so when you say canister purge flow sensor it appears that you are saying what autozone calls the canister purge valve which has a directional arrow which should be pointing from the canister towads the intake, right? this part i have replaced with an autozone part. the next item in the line i guess is called the canister purge solenoid?(this als has an electrical connection-but a smaller black plastic part-i have not replaced this one yet).
OK got it-that is the small plastic part after the solenoid valve which I did not replace yet. I'll go down to the dealer and get one tomorrow.
the only other thing is when I replaced the valve I got rid of the factory plastic vacuum hose (you know the ones that are kinda heat shrunk onto the valve and solenoid) and replaced them with regular good quality vacuum line. You dont think this would make a diffrence on anything do you?
or should i just get the whole replacement kit from the dealer lines and all?
going down there tomorrow to get all this stuff. will post results.
thanks
yep. i thought that might have something to do with it. thats why I brought that fact up. So i just put in the whole kit from Ford $79.xx wholesale and erased the code. So we'll see what happens next-this needed to be done anyways since it is a common problem. I guess I'm being pessimistic, it just feels like a gremlin for some reason.
I'll let everyone know in a couple days or so on what the cel does.
And if it doesnt cure it should I be looking at whatever the (FTP) Fuel Tank Pressure sensor is? I gues we'll cross that bridge later.
OK. Replaced the valve and solenoid with the Ford kit. Have refilled twice including a triple click the last time and NO! cel. Finally!!!
You guys been great thanks again.
So for the synopsis. Kept getting check engine light (cel) with Code P1443. Occurred every couple days or so and/or right after fill up.
Replaced the solenoid valve and switch and vacuum lines from the charcoal canister (located below the battery in the engine compartment on 1996 V6) which has solved the problem.
The FORD kit I used is part no. F57Z*9C987*CA Desc. B93 Valve A List $117.00 Net $79.85 (wholesale).
Replacement time about 15 minutes. From my experience on this one it is best to just get the kit and do it. You'll probably come out cheaper at the end if you consider time and not have to worry about trying to slice off the factory plastic vacuum lines etc..
i had to replace both the valve and the solenoid as well to get rid of the code for good. i used regular plain jane vac hose. i also replaced the gas cap as the seal was well worn but this did not get rid of the code.
if i had to do this again (please no!) i would do it in this order: gas cap, purge valve, then solenoid .. from least to most expensive ...
Thats the way I did it the first time around, but never got to the solenoid. Didn't want to take the chance of the last thing not being it, which if it then wasn't the solenoid it would have meant that it was either something else or the size of the vacuum lines. But it was probably the solenoid to begin with. OH well, it ended costing $120 total anyways-glad my brother has wholesale acct with Ford.

somehow there's got to be a way to test that solenoid...
