Hey guys, I have a couple trucks(99(2wd) and 01(4wd) Scab Lariats) that have many of the same issues, one of which is the steering wheels. I was wondering how hard they are to swap out? They are both shot(though the 01 is worse) and I have never fooled around with an airbaged wheel.
Disconnect the battery & wait 5 minutes as a safety measure. On the back side of the steering wheel you'll find a little round hole cover, one on each side. Remove it and the air bag bolts are under there. Remove the bolts, lift the bag partially out and unplug the wiring. Remove the wheel as you would any other. Installation is the reverse procedure. Are your wheels saddle leather? I ended up with a decent saddle color wheel but need a black one if you're interested. It has some fading on the top but the wrapping is still in great condition.
Mine was messed up at the top, so i just put on a leather ford steering wheel cover from Advanced Auto, it cost me like $11 and it is a pretty comfortable cover.
NCranchero, that wheel looks a heck of alot better than either of the ones in my trucks. That is also the color of both my 150s, the saddle ones were only in the KRs right?
Hey man, I'm not sure if they would swap, prolly the biggest thing would be your steering wheel controls(i.e., cruise and stuff).
Its a much better looking wheel and more comfortable(I think anyways).
NCRanchero, did you ever send me an e-mail? I'm still interested....
