I would look at the mulit function switch as an indicator possibly for the hazards and trun signals....and maybe the brake lamp switch located on the brake pedal arm under the dash, usually breaks a wire off from the way it's designed
I have a 2002 F 150 supercrew with the 5.4 and 4X4. My headlights, running lights, and turn signals started acting weird a while ago. They would work sometimes, then not, and so on. I have a tilt steering column. That was the problem. The constant raising and lowering of the steering column put wear on the wireharness to the multi switch. This took me awhile to figure out. When the steering wheel was up it would work fine. Then progressivly you had to have it higher and higher before it would work. Eventually it quit working altogether. The best advice is to go to the ford dealership and get a new wireharness to install. Not that difficult to do if you have taken apart your column at all before.
Thing I have tried and would NOT do again.
Go to the junk yard, (the wires have been exposed and don't last long).
Try to just get some wires and "patch" the missing gaps, (just trust me, don't do it).
It should only be about 40 bucks and 2-3 hours of your time max.
