I actualy like the front end of the '09, too bad they can't put a decent drive train under it. Ford has been slidding down hill since they killed the 300/302/351 motors.

Question Where's The Diesel??

I don't know about the 302, I didn't think much of my 87 5.0L F150 engine. But I was expecting a diesel in the 2009, did I get bad info somehow??

think I will keep my 04 until it grows on me,or until there is some real horse power under the hood, when ever that may be?

The 302 is OK, but the 351w and 300 l6 were better. The 302 has too short a stroke and too restrictive ports to have a good powerband for a truck.

Well, I've looked at the pics on and off all day to see if the styling would grow on me. So far, here's what I've decided:

If Ford was looking to make the F150 look more like the superduty, then the styling is a success.

If Ford was trying to make the F150 look bigger than it already is, then the styling is a success.

If Ford was just trying to make it look different and fresh, then the styling is a success.

If Ford wanted me to trade my '06 F150 for a '09 F150 because I am so excited about the styling then it was not a success.

Bottom line for me, it's just okay. Other than the styling and the 6 spd auto tranny, it's not much different than my current truck. So far, I still like the '04-'08 styling better.

Dale

I am glad to see the side airbags, traction control, towing brake/sway control, blue tooth and other goodies. My wife really liked the interior. I think it's a winner. Good job! Looking forward to the diesel, just do not make another 6.0 PSD mistake and hurry it to market.

I agree. They should've rolled out a new motor to go along with the re-design, or get the 5.4 bumped up to the range of the others. While I'm perfectly happy with my 04 and it's power, they really do need something to rebuke the Toyota's 381 HP.

All in all though I think it's a beautiful rig and if I were in the market for a new truck I would have no problem owning one.

The new Dodge looks very good to me too. I personally see big sales gains for them with this model.

The delay in the release of a new diesel is nothing new. The first diesel trucks ford offered were in 1983, 3 years after the redesigned body of 1980, the later 7.3 was a year after the 1987 body, and the first powerstroke diesel was 1.5 years after the 1992 model year.

The original 6.9L diesel was under development for as long as it was in service, no doubt there were many delays, but the result was a good diesel, if ford has to delay the release of a new diesel in their F150s for quality assurance, than so be it. Don't forget that it was chevy that was the first to offer a V8 diesel in the early 80s for light trucks, that advantage meant nothing when ford came out with their bigger better diesel. To this day chevy is still trying to live that reputation down, being the first is not always best.

I'll put a 5.4 up against a 351 or 302 any day. No factory 351w ever came close to the current 5.4L in power output.

HEE HEE, the 302 and 351W used the same heads especially 87-96. E7TE heads. The only difference was the 351 uses larger diameter head bolts. All else is the same

I own an '88 with at 5.8, an '89 with a 5.0, and an '06 with a 4.6.

The 4.6 is the better motor hands down.

Yeah, but it's no match for the mighty 300...

I am aware of that. The 351 does gain somewhat from the small ports because of the longer stroke. Meaning a good midrange powerband with good low end torque and acceptable MPG. The 300 inline 6 also has a restrictive head that plays a role in the low range torque. The 302 does have some low end torque, but the short stroke means that it would shine better if it were allowed to breath a little easier.

If you were to open up a 302 or 351, you could be on par with the modular V8s. Ford was notorious for putting restrictive exhaust systems in their trucks, gas or diesel, more recently they started opening things up, and that contributes to many of the higher performance of newer engines. Why did it take so long for ford to factory equip their trucks with headers? Headers are not exactly new.

No 6 speed manual option? Maybe if they would have offered a manual with a V-8 in the previous models they would have sold more than 1%. When the wifey's 2002 F-150 needs replacing it will be with a superduty and if they drop the manual option for those also we will both be driving Dodges. They maybe the only ones left to offer a manual. I really find it hard to believe that only 1% of F-150 buyers wanted a manual. I don't care how well the new automatics shift, the wife and I prefer to shift our own gears and will give our buisness to whoever gives us this option.

If I wanted an truck to look like a super duty, I'd buy one (SD). I like the fact the today's 150 looks different from the SDs. But typical Ford, copy what everyone else is doing. Let's make all our trucks look the same.. I'm in no hurry to buy one, although I would love to have the 6 speed in my 04....
