I've got Matt's custom tunes (SCT X3) and I love them but.... I ran the custom steet tune the other day for the 1st time. Loaded it in my driveway then drove to the store about 10 miles on the highway. Never made it over 65 mph (traffic). I got out of my truck and all that I could smell was, what I thought was either smoking brakes or someone is burning up there clutch. You know that smell right? Anyways, I got back in my truck just knowing it wasn't me and drove another 2 miles to the car wash, got out and yup! It was me stinking??? My brakes were free, so what happen? What was I cooking? I quickly put it back to stock and all fine. I now run race tune which is all good but, on cold starts it's very aggressive, it like I'm stating truck with my foot to the floor. This can't be good can it?

I don't know about your stinking truck haha but, I have issues with the cold starts and the hybrid tune. When I start it its ok, but when I pull away to go to work the throttle surges under small foot inputs. It is not the best feeling.
how long are you guys waiting between the time you start the truck and the time you leave your driveway ?? also are you guys plugging your trucks in at night ??
when my stock injectors were old and crappy, the truck did not like to start on cold mornings. if i plugged it in though it started just fine...
as far as bad starting attitude... i run hybrid file all the time and never have cold start issues with it...
BUT: AND THIS IS IMPORTANT I THINK:
i start my truck about 20 minutes before i leave, and everything is good and warmed up, then i drive very easy with light throttle inputs until i feel the drivetrain is also warmed up good, and i never have a driveability issue with it,, but even if i dont have much time i always drive very easy for the first few minutes before i romp on it, and it's worked out well for me.
Most of Matt's high end tunes have throttle surge.. We've gone over it numerous times.. Just the nature of the file.. After a few miles it'll quit.. I've gotten accustom to it and now its not a big deal..

Ya it goes away quickly, just hurts hearing it wind out to 2100rpm when its cold. I haven't been plugging in lately. It has been in the mid 30's here for cold and in the mid 50's for highs. I also don't like to let the truck idle for 20 mins like some people do. I like to let it idle for about a min then I just drive nice and easy till she warms up.
Having the same issue with the Hybrid tune after first starting up truck. I have never let my truck warm up for 20min, and probably never will. I usually let it run for about 5min and Im out of there. The first time I installed the Hybrid tune, that morning I almost took out our front gate, because of the throttle surge. Now Im used to and just have to be careful for the first mile or so.
The Hybrid Race always has and probably will act a bit cranky when its cold. It simply runs at a much lower than normal level of injection timing when the engine oil temperature is low; the characteristics of global lowered timing is one of the ways the tune is still so safe despite the high power output. The only way to ENSURE the timing never rises above certain setpoints is to limit it in a global fashion; which sometimes retards it more than desired when cold. Rest assured that other than being touchy and smelling rich when cold, it won't hurt a thing
Hey Matt what about the smell of my trannie? Is my converter staying locked up? This only happend that one time. What else could it be? Truck does a very lot of sitting looking pretty, hardly used. Will sit for weeks. Maybe it was my brakes hanging up?

Honestly I don't think any smell would have been coming from the transmission. There is no due cause, from the tune or any hardware issue for "smell" to be coming from an automatic transmission.
First place I would look would be the parking brakes, if the truck sits long periods of time.

You talking about when you start the truck up cold and take off? The surge is the TC I believe let her get warm before you leave. I let my truck run for 5 mins every morning. When shes cold she'll surge.
yup i dont think people understand just how much more longevity they will get out of a diesel engine when they allow it to warm up properly before driving, and just as important to cool down properly after being operated.
She remote starts 15 mins prior to me leaving for the office.. The transmission doesn't heat up until you start moving it.. The surge lasts until my Trans Gauge (my aftermarket) registered a reading over 100F.. Then the surge stops.. Big difference in just letting it warm up.. Yes its important to warm up a truck, but its not something that is going to warm every inch of this drivetrain up.. That is something to keep in mind.. Parts don't get hot unless they get used..
