I have a 91 ford f150 inline v6 manual. When i turn the key to start the truck the starter does not disengage. I have repleaced the starer and the celnoid to no evail. I have bypassed the ignition with an ignition button in case the ignition went bad. Not that either. After the engine starts, the bendix breaks off and spins freely. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Yeah the celenoid is on the fender in the engine compartment. And the battery cables are all in good condition. I checked the cable going to the starter and the sections that i checked the cables were fine.
You may have a faulty ign/start switch. If you pull the small wire off of the relay on the fender does the starter then disengage? If it does then the ign/start switch is shot. This switch has the return spring in it. Does your key return to the run position with a strong spring action? In case you need to find it, the IGN/start switch is on top of the steering column just behind the dash and connected to the key switch by a thin rod.
I took off the little wire on the celenoid and hooked up a starter switch on it and bypassed the ignition. I turned the key to the on position and using the starter switch hooked to the celenoid started the truck. After the starter is broken and spins freely, the starter switch works fine. You push the button and it starts the starter. You release the button the starter stops. That is the part that i dont grasp.
