anyone out there with the late 80's, early 90's f150/250 have a problem with horrible mileage. I went out to lanigan for the week to work and on the highway i was getting 13 mi/gal. Im not overly happy with this. My truck is a 250 with a 302 aod. Any help is greatly appreciated
Well man, I got around 17 with my 89 half ton on the way back from edmonton just today. I was driving with the cruise on and driving at 115. Your truck is a little heavier, and you have an auto, I dont know how much better your going to get.
Whenever mine starts getting bad I change the plugs cap and rotor.
Yea hate to say it Chris but a 302 in a 3/4 ton is pushing a lot of truck especiallyon the highway and the aerodynamics of these trucks doesnt suprise me
do a general tune up, chuck the cats if you haven't already. brakes dragging, bad wheel bearings... there's a million reasons. whats it been before?? i'd expect you to get at least 18-20 at a decent cruising speed...
no i havent switched my gears out.... yet. At 100kph i run around 21-2300 rpm. Im running stock exhaust, but with k&n filter. I was toying with the idea of a tune up. Brakes are brand new all around as well as the bearings
sounds like you got 3.73's in there. definately give her a tune up and ditch the converters and muffler. even if it don't help the MPG, it'll sound awesome. how's the tire pressure??
ya i kinda figured that, looks like ill limp through the winter and sell in the spring. I cant afford to drive it if its that bad. 17 i could live with, 13 not so much. right now its 500km to $140 worth of fuel
Well lets see if you buy a secound fuel effiecent car.
If you buy a car for 20-30,000 nice small extremely fuel effiecent car
Liscence and maintence on a secound vehichle lest say yearly 2500 atleast
I think you know where I am going with this running a secound car while using a truck for fun and hauling.
Figure that out Ryan, with a good used car, something reasonably priced, not brand spanking new, that gets 50 mpg compared to the 13 that Chris gets, then figure out how many miles Chris would drive.
In the end it would add up if he drives alot. Plus get the right car and you have good resale after and recoup some of your cash!
