I wonder what the proper motor that would get best milleage would be.....
Diesel would be the coolest and most ersatile and save fuel, but you'll miss the comfort of the gas. Also no secert that Ford and Chev diesels have had there issues.
It might just be me but when I spend 6000 or more on a truck I don't want to have to worry about them starting and /or downtime.

Not all 2000 cars are selling that cheap though man, its mainly the domestics. The jap craps hold their value a LOT better then the domestics.
Chris maybe you should look at getting a diesel when you sell yours? Some of those mid 90's diesels sell for a decent price and generally better on fuel then a gasser.
Unless a truck is needed for heavy trailer towing or alot of miles on a regular
basis it maybe questionable to operate a diesel truck. I`d be thinking more like an F150 with a 4.6 V8 if not the V6 rather than the heavier F250.
Small things even like a starter likely cost in the neighbourhood of $500-600, a tuneup can run a few thousand (injectors supposedly around $500 X 8) and more money for oil changes (my 05 oil change costs $89). Not a clue about what a turbo replacement costs. Also the price of diesel is abit higher than gasoline.
The up side is alot more power and tuneups aren`t frequent (but they can bite hard).
There`s been a good debate between the gasers and the oil burners raging in the diesel forums, check it out there.
touch wood, my screw has been very cheap to me. other than oil and gas its been awesome in almost 50000k. if anyone was looking for a truck i'd reccomend the 01-03 series, they seem to be the most desireable for the later years. this is coming from salesman talk today.
I agree sherm well on the highway doing 100kph with a 3.55 ratio and 351W im running 2000 rpms or so maybe like 1900 but close and about 110 im running 2100 or so im thinking you got 3.08 im almost positive our trucks didnt get 3.73 only like 3.08 3.55 and something else i forget for the F150 anyways for the years of 1987-1996
Yeah its a tough decision what to do, a half ton might get ya a little better mileage, which would be worth it, unless the damn truck costs more then what you sell yours for.
Chris I had a 94 with a 351 that was getting horrible mileage and someone suggested I change the oxygen sensor and my mileage went up to 16 or 17 after that.
