cleanning chrome

Does anybody have any home grown recipes to clean up my chrome peaces? They are in good shape just need a little tlc. and still wondering about the color of the letters on the valve cover I'm thinking red. Also there are 2 differant sets of the horns that got you all goin on ebay under the vintage area, one double set and onde single set. Latter Casey.

Aluminum foil and Coke. No really wad up some foil in a loose ball pour a 2litre in a bucket and scrub it shiny again. Be careful on potmetal and anodized aluminum parts. Try it on a test piece first. I had an old bodyman tell me this and I didn't believe him so I tried it on an old mirror that had turned green and pitted. I was amazed at how well it cut the green haze and brought back the shine. I tried it on a grill (anodized aluminum) and it stripped the anodizing and left a dull but clean aluminum finish.

Talking

S.O.S. pads! They work great, and dont' take anything off but the rust and haze.

Check the link above. Many bike restorers use oxalic acid with excellent results. I have tried it myself and was very pleased with the results.

Steel wool, and or a combination of steel wool and chrome polish or polishing compound or something along those lines.

You can buy steel wool in a variety of different gauges/thickness/sizes or however they rate it. Its pretty cheap at the local hardware store. Even without any polishing compound the steel wool all by itself will do a fantastic job on chrome and glass

I have used steel wool of "0000" fine. It works great and when used with a chrome polish like Harley"Blue Job" fantastic. make sure you wash in soapy water and dry..or the left over particles of steel wool will rust. Then polish again with a hard wax.

Another old school trick...
I had a 55 Poncho that was painted long ago..so no clear coated urethane here...
But scrubbed the paint( green with white roof) with household cleaner called "Bonami"
it is like comet but of a finer size abrassive. Man the paint cleaned up very nice. Rewashed and waxed and it looked awesome.
