I Have Ebpv Delete, The Plug Is Just Taped Over. ? Is It Still Goes Into High Idle On Start Up In The Am. Thought It Was Disabled Once The Ebpv Was Gutted? Also Whats The Consenses On Having That Plug Just Hanging Verses Having A Fooler Plugged In. I Remember Eugene Saying Jody Uses It In His Tunes Still?
The sensor from the air box tells the computer when it is cold and it should high idle. I think you can take the sensor out and stop the high idle. It throws a code but doesn't cause any problems.
Or, are you getting high idle even when its warm out? (that means a bad temp sensor in the air cleaner box)
For those of us that live in the "cold": Having the high idle is very beneficial when operating at colder temps (35deg or less) for keeping combustion chamber temps up enough to get good fuel burn. Having unburnt diesel running around in your crankcase isn't the best thing to have. Tends to lead to cylinder wall "washing" which can lead to liner scoring. Also shows up as a low oil flashpoint temp on a UOA. Besides if you're like me I like to have warm feet when parked & idling for long periods.

I Dont "mind" It Just Wondering Why It Had Kicked In, I Usually Start It Wait Til Oil Pressure Comes Up And Drive Off (no More Than 1500 Rpms Til She's Warm). A Few Days Ago I Went To Put The Trash Out After I Started Her And Noticed High Idle Kick In (kinda Nice Not To Have The Jet Engine Noise).......just Wondering Really
It shouldn't have kicked in unless it was pretty cold out. Usually mine doesn't kick into high idle unless its below 35deg out and even then you have to be idling for several minutes before the RPM's come up. (like 5-7minutes or so) In other words it can be 0deg out and my idle is normal until its sits there for a bit.
Otherwise the idle stays @ around 850 or so.
Wonder if the Cali trucks are different? - I.E> high idle comes on sooner & at a higher temp or comes on regardless of temp. Hmmm.... Gives me a reason to do a little shop manual "digging" over the weekend. I know the GP system is quite a bit different on the trucks built for CA.
With the EBPV gone the jet engine noise ought to be minimal.

I don't know of any set air temperature for the high idle, but I do know that engine oil temperature must be below 122* F for high idle to kick in. Idle can be raised up to 1300 RPM's, and the actual amount of RPM's raised depends on the outside ambient air temps. It can be much warmer than 35 degrees outside for high idle to kick in, and it's perfectly normal to do so.
If you don't want high idle, don't use the e-brake, at least on my stick, no high idle without pushing down the e-brake. (tough not to do with a stick)
IT HAS BEEN AROUND 38 OR SO LATELY......MY TRUCK IS A TEXAS TRUCK SO I DONT THINK IT HAS THE CALI SET UP.

MINES AUTO AND I DONT USE THE E-BRAKE, I GUESS THATS DIFF IN A MANUAL
I GUESS I WAS THINKING THAT ONLY THE EBPV AND SENSOR CONTROLLED HIGH IDLE......THANKS FOR CLARIFYING POCKET.
My EBPS was not working and I entered high idle mode, but I did not get the woosh. I just replaced the sensor, so hopefully I can get the turbo to spin up some so things heat up quicker. When it's -15 deg out, heat is good!
