bell housings are not the same i now looking
for info on balancing are all 460 enternal balanced if not what years did they change? this
standard flywheel has put my truck on hold. used flywheels are impossible to find and new are very
costly . so i only want to do this once
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Aug-02 AT 12:12 PM (EST)]The bellhousings are the same, the 6.9/7.3 used an adpater plate on the back of the engine to make it a 460 bellhousing. The only problem with this I found out is I had a ZF tranny and even though it had the 460 pattern it was not drilled for the starter.
You might want to search some old threads, I have seen some talk on here about using a 390 flywheel.
hey there
i also want to do the 6.9 460 swap on my truck. do u think u could help me out with the knowledge you have aquired so far. i have just started researching the swap and what i will have to do but have not found to much out yet. is the zf tranny what came with the diesel (no granny gear)? i have found a 460 out of an 83 f250. do u think i can use that engine to bolt onto my tranny? only problem that 460 is an AT and mine is a manual. other question i had is hod easily does the 460 fit onto the chasis with the mounts and everything. any other info you could provide would be greatly appreciated. thanx
