i have an 86 f250 with the 6.9 diesel engine. i am sick of having a diesel engine and want to put a 460 in it. i have been told this will be an easy swap as long as i find the right donar truck. i found an 83 f250 2wd and with an automatic tranny. my truck has a manual tranny 4 spd with no granny gear. what i am wondering is if a 460 will match up with my tranny or not. also if the 460 will mount on my chasis, with the engine mounts from the 460. if anyone has done this swap or has any advice please get back to me. thanx

thanx for that. it was a big help. only thing i am still a little confused about is the transmission. will the one that is in my truck right now work, (same bolt pattern, yolk, etc..) or should i find a truck that has the transmission with the engine. thanx for your time brian

The bellhousings are the same, the 6.9/7.3 used an adpater plate on the back of the engine to make it a 460 bellhousing. The only problem with this I found out is I had a ZF tranny and even though it had the 460 pattern it was not drilled for the starter.
You may or may not have this problem with the four speed tranny. If it doesn't have the bellhousing drilled for a starter, you can just find a bellhousing off of a 460 equiped tranny and swapped yours out.
