MY 460 STARTED TO MAKE NOISE WHILE DRIVING 60 ON HWY. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MAY BE THE A/C COMPRESSOR KNOCKING. I HAVE NOT PULLED IT DOWN YET BUT I THINK THE LOWER END IS O K . IT HAS GOOD OIL PRESURE AND DOSE NOT MISFIRE. WHEN I REMOVE PLUG WIRE FROM # 7 THE KNOCK IS 50% LESS. THE MOTOR HAS 43000 MILES AND PULLS 34 FT MOTORHOME AND 2500 LB NEON TOAD. ANY ADVISE I CAN GET WOULD HELP BEFOR I TEAR IT DOWN WOULD HELP TRACKCAT
On my 460, the knocking sound turned out to be a wrist pin. Try running a wet and dry compression test to determine if you have a bent or burnt valve. Good luck.
Rodger.
p.s. Could you please turn off the caps lock. It's the internet equivelant of shouting. Thanks
I'd say tear it down before you incur possible additional damage. As the others mentioned, your oil pressure won't be affected by a bad wrist pin or spun bearing.
